Employees in this class perform a variety of administrative, secretarial, and records keeping duties. Work generally requires that employees handle certain activities such as records and information processing and referral or a special office assignment. Employee will provide general administrative support to the Director of Planning and Community Development. The employee must be willing to become a Notary Public. Employee will need to attend various board and commission meetings at the request of the Director. Employee will be required to type minutes for the boards and commissions.
Work requires tact and discretion in handling public information matters. Work requires a knowledge of office operations in order that the role may serve as backup and at a competent level in several roles. Previous experience with Microsoft Office Tools such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher are preferred. Work requires more independence and self-initiative in activities than found at an entry clerical position. Precedent setting situations are referred to higher level supervisors. Guides may include a variety of written manuals and instructions, as well as oral instructions. Sound judgment is required in performing the tasks. Work is performed under the supervision of a department head or higher administrative level and is evaluated through observation, conferences, and the quality and effectiveness of work completed.
