Position: Municipal Tech I-III – Collection & Distribution Department

General Statement of Duties:

An employee in this class performs a variety of skilled work while working alone or as a member of a crew engaged in the construction, inspection, installation, replacement, and repair of collection & distribution lines. Work involves the operation of various hand tools and construction equipment in the installation, replacement, and repair of collection and distribution pipes to specific grade and depth, and back filling and compacting the site. Work also includes making taps to collection and distribution mains, installing hydrants, meters, and valves, and making repairs to the collection and distribution system. Occasional public contact is required in making referrals to appropriate personnel. Employees are subject to working in both inside and outside environments, in extreme hot and cold weather, and exposure to various hazards such as loud noises, vibration, moving mechanical parts, electrical current, chemicals, fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, poor ventilation, and oils. The employee must also meet OSHA standards for permit required confined space entry and rescue. Work requires serving 24-hour on-call, stand-by, and emergency call back as needed. Participates in making repairs to manholes to prevent leakage of wastewater or other liquids. Work is performed under regular supervision and is evaluated through observation, evaluations, productivity and compliance with instructions, regulations, required laws and standard trade and safety practices. Some independent judgment is exercised . Employee performs other work as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Must possess high school diploma or equivalent.
Experience in semi-skilled and skilled maintenance and construction work, including experience with the operation of heavy construction equipment.
