The Director of Development for Events and Sponsorships will be responsible for leading signature fundraising events for the University and be responsible for identifying and soliciting sponsorships. The incumbent will work in conjunction with key Institutional Advancement staff along with other campus partners to plan fundraising events or other events that attract high-profile donors. This person will also be responsible for developing event sponsorship opportunities, seeking sponsorship support, and fulfilling deliverables.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:


Events Management:
  • Serve as the lead manager of the University's fundraising and stewardship events including the golf tournament, the annua Donors and Scholars Reception, the University Gala, holiday socials, and other signature events.
  • Coordinate and train event volunteers.
  • Identify venues and organize site visits to ensure suitability.
  • Secure venues, catering, entertainment, designers, photographers, speakers, vendors, and exhibitors and negotiate and review contracts prior to sign off.
  • Work closely with University Relations team for marketing and branding of all events.
Strategic Operations and Logistics:
  • Develop event design, budget, layouts, logistics, timelines, run-of-show, checklist, and seating arrangements to ensure events are executed with a high degree of excellence.
  • Develop exhaustive project plans for each event to be used as templates for future events.
  • Research, test, and implement event technology tools to execute events effectively and efficiently.
  • Develop guest lists to include the appropriate audience and stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with the marketing team to develop and deliver communication and promotion as well as invitations and collateral for events and sponsorship opportunities.
  • Coordinates the event post-event debrief and makes recommendations about improvements and enhancements to events.
  • Share updates on events in various weekly meetings.
  • Work with campus planning committees and ensure appropriate delegation of duties.
  • Serve as the liaison for university-wide non-fundraising events including convocation, commencement, and other special ceremonies.
Sponsorships:
  • Develop, build, and maintain relationships with prospective and current sponsors by prospecting, holding client meetings, cold calling, and cultivating relationships.
  • Raise sponsorship revenue according to yearly goals focusing on developing innovative pitches for event sponsorship.
  • Provide sponsors with a seamless experience by developing relevant activations that integrate with our event objectives and positively portray their brand to university stakeholders.
Required Qualifications

EDUCATION:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Management, Communications, or closely related field.
EXPERIENCE:
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience running large events such as galas, socials, donor, and university receptions.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Self-motivated and have a strong background in events management.
  • A demonstrated record of successful solicitation of sponsorships.
  • A strong organizational and leadership capabilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong strategic thinking and planning skills.
