Farmstead Hudson Valley is a small farm located in Stuyvesant NY. We farm sustainably, employing regenerative practices to maintain healthy soil and create an environment to support our farming goals. Founded with a vision of stewarding the land in our care, we aim to give our customers a deeper connection to nature and knowledge of where their food comes from and how it is grown. Our field-grown produce and flowers are sold locally at Farmer’s Markets and to select restaurants. Our small size allows us to employ micro-farming and management practices that are in harmony with and benefit our soils and, ultimately, our planet.

 

Job Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated Farm Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of the farm. The Farm Manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of the farm including crop production, equipment maintenance, irrigation systems, composting, and day-to-day operations.  This is a full-time position that requires a strong background in farming and a passion for regenerative agriculture.

 

Responsibilities:

As an instrumental member of the Farmstead Hudson Valley team, the Farm Operations Manager will lead in the implementation of our land stewardship objectives, including :

  1. Plan and oversee the day-to-day operation of the farm, including greenhouse and field management, staffing, scheduling and equipment management. 
  2. Manage and supervise farm staff, providing guidance and training as needed.
  3. Develop and implement no-till, regenerative practices contributing to soil health
  4. Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and maintain a safe working environment.
  5. Generate yield projections and maintain accurate records of yields, expenses, and other farm-related data.
  6. Ensure the operation and efficiency of irrigation systems.
  7. Developing and implementing an on-site, composting system.
  8. Oversee the day-to-day operation of the farm, including greenhouse and field management - from seed to market.
  9. Maintain surrounding woodland areas, including possible implementation of animal grazing and management plans.
  10. Wholesale and market operations, including market prep and weekly wholesale, CSA and Farmers Markets set up and take down.

Requirements:

  1. Proven experience in farm management (1 year minimum)
  2. Strong knowledge of farming techniques including seed germination, greenhouse management, field management, and soils management.
  3. Basic financial record-keeping and management skills
  4. Proficiency in operating heavy and manual equipment.
  5. Experience with growing vegetable and flower crops.
  6. Mechanical knowledge for equipment repair and maintenance.
  7. Ability to perform heavy lifting and work in various weather conditions.
  8. Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  9. Passion for sustainable agriculture and commitment to environmental stewardship.
