Managing Editor
The Columbus Dispatch/dispatch.com, located in the fastest-growing city in the Midwest and part of the USA TODAY NETWORK, is seeking a dynamic Managing Editor to direct coverage of Ohio’s capital city and its sprawling metropolitan area.
The successful candidate must have a passion for impactful journalism and the skill to drive innovative, investigative, and enterprise work.
We are looking for someone who can accelerate digital innovation in content development, story-telling, and breaking news situations to help grow the newspaper’s digital audience.
The Managing Editor will partner with the Executive Editor to focus on strategies that grow subscribers and drive unique news that readers can’t get anywhere else.

Responsibilities:
- Lead other editors and coach reporters and photographers to produce the best news report each day.
- Guide the news organization in covering topics and issues most important to key audiences. Work with the content strategist and digital optimization team members to adjust content direction as data dictates.
- Oversee the paper’s content strategy, aggressively using data and leveraging audience analysts to make sure content decisions focus on the needs of the target audiences.
- Direct the newsroom and work collaboratively with the digital production team to ensure a steady flow of quality content to provide the right elements on the right platforms at the right time.
- Direct and champion investigative and First Amendment journalism.
- Monitor real-time metrics to develop a clear picture of audience needs.
- Provide excellent customer service, helping readers find answers and solutions.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, or related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- More than five years of media management experience.
- Proven proficiency in applying analytics to content strategy.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Exposure to deadline-driven environment.
- Exceptional planning and organizational skills.
- Social-media and SEO knowledge.
- Self-motivation and self-direction.
- Strong line-editing skills.
