Part-Time Fact Check Editor
Pulitzer Prize-winning USA TODAY is seeking a part-time editor to join its Fact Check Team.
This editor will help lead a team that investigates viral misinformation on social media, debunking falsehoods and elevating truthful information.
Our fact checks tell readers what’s true and how we know that through a thorough and transparent story format. Previous editing experience is required. The ideal candidate would have a strong background reporting and editing across a variety of subject areas.
Fact-checking experience is a plus but not required. Fairness, accuracy and excellent news judgment are paramount, as are strong editing, research and time-management skills. The editor should also be a team player capable of working collaboratively with editors and reporters throughout our news operation.
We’re looking for someone who will play a key role as a first read on work from our team of nine reporters, working alongside two other fact-check editors to ensure our work is the best it can be.
A 20-hour work week will be standard, though additional work will be available at times based on team workflow. This position is remote and can be based anywhere in the US, except for Alaska and Hawaii. Hours are flexible but should primarily take place during traditional office hours.
