The South Bend Tribune in northern Indiana, part of the USA Today network, is looking for an enterprising and digitally focused visual journalist who will help lead our presentation and help us grow our readership.
The visual journalist will work with reporters and editors to plan the very best photos and videos, attract new audiences through Instagram and other social media and find opportunities to tell stories through photographs. This staff photographer will also help train interns, maintain a list of photo stringers and work with the newsroom staff to identify visual opportunities. The ideal candidate will use metrics to develop and evolve photo plans and will have a proven track record of collaboration.
The visual journalist must obviously be an outstanding photographer in their own right, and because University of Notre Dame sports drives a lot of readership, sports photography skills are crucial.
Job Duties include:
- Working with editors to plan visual elements and find the best photo opportunities
- Editing photos and galleries
- Using metrics to determine which photos and videos will appeal to our audiences or attract new ones
- Helping lead efforts on Instagram and other social media
Knowledge and Skills:
- Self-motivation and self-direction.
- Advance knowledge of social media and how to engage fan base on digital platforms in public space.
- Photo and video skills.

- Able to multi-task and excel under intense deadline pressure in a rapidly changing environment.

Required Work Experience, Training, and Education
- 1-3 years of experience in journalism or related profession
- An ability to multi-task
- The ability to work under deadline pressure
