Work Schedule, Hours per week: Varies depending on department needs, 40 hours per week

Pay Range: $22.65-$29.31 and determined based on relevant years of work experience.

Position Summary: Provide law enforcement and public safety services to the Johnson County Community College (JCCC) community. This includes enforcement of criminal statutes with full arrest authority, parking and traffic enforcement, crime prevention, patrol activity, accident investigation, resolution of domestic and other disturbances, prosecution support, non-criminal public safety services, and enforcement of college policies, rules, and regulations.

Required Qualifications: Career-development professional within field. Requires moderate skill set and proficiency in discipline. Conducts work assignments of increasing complexity, under moderate supervision with some latitude for independent judgment. Requires High School degree and certification as Kansas-commissioned Police Officer. Must be eligible to attend a basic law enforcement training program acceptable to Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC). Must obtain certification as a Law Enforcement Officer issued through the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC) prior to receiving permanent employment status at Johnson County Community College. Must qualify and certify with firearms, ASP baton, CPR, AED, First Aid and Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) spray. Must obtain NIMS and ICS training certificates.

Position Details: Job duties include but are not limited to:
  • Monitor activity in buildings and conduct security patrols on foot or in vehicle to detect suspicious activity, deter crime, preserve law and order, and safeguard life and property.
  • Monitor campus grounds for any safety hazards.
  • Answer calls for service typical of a college environment, such as responding to medical emergencies, serving as a personal escort, locking and unlocking classroom doors, providing money escorts, property recovery, and keeping campus thoroughfares and lots unobstructed.
  • Provide assistance to students, staff, and visitors in a courteous and professional manner that instills trust and respect within the JCCC community. Perform duties in a conscientious and efficient manner.
  • Control traffic flow and enforce state and local traffic regulations.
  • Provide warnings, issue citations, and make arrests for violations of state laws, local ordinances, or JCCC policies and rules.
  • Conduct interviews with victims and witnesses and gather information and evidence. Prepare reports on accidents, incidents, and suspicious activities. Prepare related documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Respond swiftly to emergencies, such as accidents, medical incidents, natural disasters, and criminal incidents, providing assistance and coordinating with other emergency services as required.
  • Testify in courts and at hearings. Prepare documentation and present case evidence.
  • Inspect and maintain assigned patrol car, uniform, and equipment. Ensure all equipment is working properly. Report any defects in need of correction to leaders.
  • Assist with event security and protection of high-profile campus visitors.
