Position Overview


Primary Purpose of Position
The Chemical, Biological and Bioengineering Department (CBBE) of the College of Engineering (COE) at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University invites applications and nominations for its Research Operations Manager position. The Research Operations Manager is a direct report to the Chair of the CBBE Department. The position provides operations management and technical-scientific knowledge-driven planning and direction for multiple educational and research laboratories. In addition, the position requires knowledge of research concepts, practices and procedures, teaching and research laboratory operations, regulatory requirements, safety, planning and budgeting, and ABET requirements.

The range of duties includes, but is not limited to:
  • Facility planning and maintenance, inventory control, purchasing and maintenance of laboratory equipment, fiscal and administrative services, monitoring environmental risks and quality control, planning and scheduling work, determining the training need.
  • Support for faculty and students in curricula and extra-curricula activities
  • Removal of items no longer needed by the department and managing their subsequent disposal or transfer to surplus.
  • Providing lead support to the teaching and research labs of the Department.
  • Ensuring that the teaching and research labs are organized, maintained, and functional.
  • Lending weekly support to the College of Engineering Facilities Team.

North Carolina A&T State University is a public, doctoral high research land-grant University that enrolls over 13,300 students. On the Graduate level, the College has 8 Masters of Science Degree programs, and 5 Doctoral programs distributed across its seven departments. The Department of Chemical, Biological, and Bio- Engineering offers ABET-accredited Bachelors of Science programs in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, and Biological Engineering, and offers Masters of Science programs in Bioengineering and Chemical Engineering. The Department has 10 full-time faculty members in engineering, 3 staff members and 2 adjunct faculty members. Major research includes the NSF Engineering Research Center for Revolutionizing Metallic Biomaterials, the NSF CREST Bioenergy Center, the NSF RED project “A Revolution in Engineering Education Motivated by Needs and Designs,” and the US Army-funded Biotechnology Center. Work Hours 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM; Monday - Friday, and occasional Saturday

  • Provides laboratory management in chemical and bioengineering research operations and educational laboratory management.
  • Manages lab resources.
  • Establishes priorities for use of resources including space or equipment.
  • Establishes and modifies quality assurance for unit.
  • Ensures compliance with procedures and work standards and recommends changes.
  • Provides instruction and training to others.
  • Support of College Facility relevant activities in collaboration with the COE Facility Management staff.
