Director of Education

EMPLOYER:
The North Carolina Real Estate Commission is an independent North Carolina state governmental agency whose mission is to protect the public interest in real estate brokerage transactions. The primary function of the Commission is to license and regulate North Carolina’s approximately 123,000 plus real estate brokers and firms. The Commission also registers and regulates sales activities at time share projects, and oversees prelicensing, postlicensing, and continuing education for brokers and applicants for brokers licenses.
The Commission consists of nine volunteer members appointed by the Governor and General Assembly. At least three members must be real estate brokers, and at least two “public members” must not be involved in the real estate brokerage business. The Commission is responsible for policy-making with regard to licensing and regulatory matters governing North Carolina real estate brokers. The Commission also conducts hearings and takes disciplinary action against licensed brokers for violations of the Real Estate License Law and Commission rules.
An Executive Director, hired by the Commission, is responsible for the overall administration of the Commission’s staff, programs, and operations in accordance with the policies and directives of the Commission.

POSITION:
Director of Education and Licensing
Salary Range - negotiable depending on experience
DUTIES:
A brief outline of specific responsibilities for the Director of Education and Licensing includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- Direct the planning for, and the implementation and evaluation of, real estate education, examination, and licensing programs, and determine priorities for improvement.
- Supervise the administration of the Commission's real estate pre-licensing, post-licensing, and continuing education programs including development of curriculum guides (course syllabi) and resource material.
- Supervise the development annually of course materials for the mandatory General Update Course and Broker-in Charge Update course and supervise the annual training of approved instructors to teach the courses.
- Co-author the Commission's North Carolina Real Estate Manual, and supervise its publication and distribution.
- Supervise professional and support staff in the delivery of services; select and participate in selection of professional staff for the Division.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Thorough knowledge of principles and theories of education, especially adult education, as well as educational trends, developments and instructional methods and practices. Thorough knowledge of real estate brokerage principles and practices and of the Commission's rules, policies and procedures. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a masters or higher degree in adult education, education or related field, and considerable experience in adult education administration, and at least one year of experience in real estate brokerage; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of a North Carolina Real Estate Broker license preferred.

- Longevity Pay - Non-probationary employees who have served at least ten years with the Commission or a combination of service with the Commission and the State of North Carolina receive Longevity Pay in recognition of tong- term service. Annual Longevity pay amounts are based on length of service and the employee’s annual rate of base pay on the date of eligibility.
- Paid Parental Leave - Eight (8) weeks (320 hours) of Paid Parental Leave are provided to Eligible Employees who have given birth for recuperation during the disability period and bonding with a newborn. Four (4) weeks (160 hours) of Paid Parental Leave are provided to other Eligible Employees to care for and bond with a newborn or newly adopted, foster, or otherwise legally-placed child in their home.
- Insurance - The Commission presently maintains the following insurance coverage for Commission employees. Each policy is subject to change with policy renewal in July of each year. Currently the Commission pays the full premium for employees; family members may be added at the employee’s expense. Insurance benefits will begin on the first day of the first full month of employment.
- Health Insurance - Commission employees currently have health insurance through Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina.
- Dental Insurance - Commission employees currently have dental insurance through Delta Dental.
- Term Life, Accidental Death & Long Term Disability - Commission employees currently are insured through Hartford Insurance
- Retirement - The Commission participates in the NC Licensing Board Retirement 401k plan. Each employee has a mandatory 6% contribution which is matched by the Commission. Employees may contribute more than 6%; additional employee contributions are not matched.
