The mission of the College of Education development team is to increase private financial support through strategic engagement and advocacy among all constituencies in order to advance the vision and priorities of the College. Our next Director of Development will be an integral member of a close-knit College of Education Development team that consistently outperforms expectations. This position will primarily focus on major gift work (gifts of $50,000 and higher), and will be tasked with discovering, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors at this level. We seek a fundraising professional who is excited to be part of the NC State community, well-versed in major gifts development, and motivated by the impact that this work can have on educators and learners within our own College and beyond. Essential Job Duties:
The Director of Development is a member of the Education Development team reporting to the Executive Director of Development. This position is responsible for identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major and planned gifts from individuals, corporations, organizations and philanthropic foundations in support of all components of NC State's College of Education.

Major Gift Development (80%)
- Identifying, cultivating and soliciting gifts with a focus on increasing the pipeline of major gifts ($50,000 and above) from individuals, alumni, corporations and foundations.
- Meeting annually established targets for donor qualifications, meetings with prospects and donors, major gift solicitations, dollars proposed, and dollars closed.
- Managing a portfolio of major gift donors.
- Developing private support for established priorities of the NC State College of Education by building relationships between faculty and alumni, friends, and corporate and foundation leaders that result in effective partnerships and increased philanthropic funding.
- Providing stewardship and managing relationships with prospects. Coordinating stewardship efforts as needed with appropriate University Advancement and other campus colleagues.
- Regular travel (occasional overnight travel) and the ability to work nights and weekends as needed are required.
Strategic Partnership (15%)
- Serving as an active team member in the development and implementation of the College of Education Development Office's short-term and long-term planning objectives.
- Developing strategic relationships with faculty, staff, alumni, volunteers, friends, students, corporations, foundations, industry partners, and campus colleagues that result in effective partnerships and increased philanthropic funding.
- Collaborating with College leadership, department heads, program leaders, faculty, and colleagues to help align donors' philanthropic interests with the assigned priority area.
- Developing multi-year strategies to solicit donors/prospects in support of priority areas.
- Assisting in providing direction for the development program, campaign planning, and in relationship building with alumni and other constituents of the college.
- Gaining a comprehensive understanding of the priorities of the College, and making a persuasive oral and written case for supporting key programs.
Other (5%)
- Attend a variety of events throughout the year including some nights and weekends.
- Occasional travel is required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum:
Requires a relevant post-baccalaureate degree with a minimum of three (3) years or greater of related professional experience, or a relevant undergraduate degree and a minimum of five (5) years or greater of relevant experience may be substituted for the advanced degree.
Required:
- Proven fundraising and/or sales success, including the ability to evaluate, qualify and move prospects through the cultivation/solicitation cycle;
- Familiarity with the principles, practices, and ethics of fundraising;
- Ability to build and maintain positive and effective internal and external relationships, as part of a team in a large, complex research university;
- Experience in cold calling, negotiating, and closing business deals;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to effectively articulate the case for support;
- Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment;
- Strong organizational and analytical skills, with high attention to detail;
- Self-motivated and self-starting;
- Unquestioned integrity;
- Demonstrated open and positive interpersonal style;
- Computer literacy.
Preferred:
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required as well as four or more years of progressive responsibility and experience in institutional advancement or a related field such as sales, wealth management or alumni relations;
- Experience in higher education fundraising, and particularly major gifts development;
- Volunteer management experience;
- Familiarity with NC State University and/or higher education policies.
