Postdoctoral Scholar Families, Affective Neuroscience, and Mood Disorders Lab

The laboratory of Dr. Katie Burkhouse (Families, Affective Neuroscience, and Mood Disorders Lab) at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar position. The anticipated start date is Fall 2024 (with earliest possible start date of July 1).

The Postdoctoral Scholar position involves working on NIMH-funded projects on positive valence systems function in offspring of mothers with histories of depression in collaboration with Dr. Autumn Kujawa at Vanderbilt University.

Opportunities include gaining advanced training in multiple research methods (e.g., EEG/ERP, behavioral observations, ecological momentary assessment) with children, obtaining supervised clinical hours through diagnostic interviews and delivery of a positive affective prevention program, and writing manuscripts. The Postdoctoral Scholar will also receive support for travel for conference presentations and for writing mentored grant proposals.

Requirements include a Ph.D. in Clinical or Developmental Psychology (or a related field, including Cognitive Psychology or Neuroscience) by the appointment date. Ideal candidates should have experience with EEG/ERP methods or parent-child interactions and ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

In addition, successful candidates must either have demonstrated a commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community, or describe one or more ways they would envision doing so, given the opportunity.

Applicants must submit an application online and should include their CV as an attachment with the contact information for two references. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis until the position is filled.

The position is located on Penn State's University Park Campus in central Pennsylvania and is a term appointment for one year from the date of hire.

More information on the benefits offered with this position can be found at https://www.research.psu.edu/opa/benefits.

Some travel (typically one trip over the year that may last 3-5 days) between sites (Penn State and Vanderbilt) to coordinate data collection methods will be required.

The following clearances will be required: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.

The Department of Psychology is home to the Families, Affective Neuroscience, and Mood Disorders Lab. More information on our Department can be found at https://psych.la.psu.edu/. Any questions or concerns with the online application should be directed to Kelly Confer at kym3@psu.edu.
