Position: Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor

Company: Princeton University

Description: Princeton University's Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology is seeking candidates for multiple tenure-track faculty positions in Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior. We anticipate hiring at the assistant professor level but will also consider exceptional candidates at more senior levels. Joint appointments with other academic units within the university are possible. We invite applications from scholars who work within or across the areas of ecology, evolution, and/or behavior, but particularly ecology or behavior. The range of possible research topics should be construed very broadly - we are excited to consider applicants who focus on any timescale, organism(s), or level of biological organization, and who employ any combination of empirical and theoretical methodologies. Regardless of research specialty, our ideal candidate is one who addresses bold, innovative questions using rigorous and creative approaches, who values teaching and mentorship, and who is eager to interact with a multidisciplinary group of colleagues. Princeton is a vibrant and inclusive community that fosters cross-disciplinary collaboration. Successful candidates will have opportunities to interact with colleagues in many other departments, programs, and institutes on campus, including the High Meadows Environmental Institute, Lewis-Sigler Institute for Integrative Genomics, Princeton Neuroscience Institute, Program in Applied and Computational Mathematics, and Center for Statistics and Machine Learning. The university is especially interested in candidates who, through outstanding research, teaching, and service, contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community. The department enthusiastically encourages applications from members of groups that are underrepresented in science. Applicants must apply online at https://puwebp.princeton.edu/AcadHire/position/32023 and submit a vision statement, no longer than two pages, that outlines the question(s) they would pursue during their first five years at Princeton and places those questions in the context of one or more major unsolved problems. This statement should draw upon the applicant's past and present research, but should be forward-looking and oriented primarily towards the program that will be built at Princeton. In addition to this statement, applications should also include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, three reprints, contact information for three references, and a one-page statement describing the broader impacts of the candidate's professional activities. We envision the scope of this last statement broadly, similar to that defined by the U.S. National Science Foundation (https://new.nsf.gov/funding/learn/broader-impacts), and applicants are encouraged to consult NSF guidelines in preparing their statements. Review of applications will begin October 25, 2023. This position is subject to the University's background check policy.
