Overview

The Kocher Lab at Princeton is looking for a Research Specialist I to help us study the mechanisms that shape variation in social behavior. Our group studies how genes and environment shape the brains and behaviors of social and solitary insects. We do this by combining leading-edge genomic tools with field and lab studies.

Responsibilities

We are looking for a motivated individual with experience in molecular biology (PCR, qPCR, and DNA/RNA extractions) to generate genomic datasets in our lab. Your primary role will be to construct genomic and transcriptomic libraries from samples of socially variable bees to aid our investigations of the genetic and environmental factors that shape variation in social behavior. Additional responsibilities will include DNA/RNA extractions, PCR and qPCR.

The position is open and review of applications will begin immediately. This is a one-year term position, with the possibility of renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance and continued funding.

Primary role is to generate genomic datasets for our research group. Protocols implemented will include: PCR, qPCR, DNA/RNA extractions, DNA/RNA library generation, and sample QC.

Essential qualifications:
- Experience in basic molecular biology techniques, including: PCR, DNA/RNA extractions, solution preparation
- Good hands in lab and dedication to hands-on laboratory work
- Ability to lead a project independently and problem solve as needed
- Ability to work well with others in a team environment
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize in an environment with multiple demands and ongoing projects
- Excellent organizational skills and a strong attention to detail

Preferred, not required, other valuable experience:
