Mission or Goal of Unit: The Department of Pediatrics, division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and Stem Cell Transplantation at the Children's Hospital of Richmond (CHoR) is seeking a Pediatric Neuro-Oncologist to support the program of Pediatric Neuro-Oncology. Children's Hospital of Richmond of the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System has committed itself to transforming the division into a model academic unit devoted to excellence in clinical care, teaching, and clinical, translational, and basic research.
Chief Purpose of this position: The department seeks a Pediatric Neuro-Oncologist that will provide support to the division in its continuity of care for new and existing patients. The division and CHoR are part of the NCI-designated Massey Cancer Center. Currently, the division is the only facility providing pediatric stem cell transplantation in Virginia. The Pediatric Neuro-oncology section includes an outstanding team of neurosurgeons and neuroradiology expertise and will work closely with the adult neuro-oncology program headed by Dr. Mariza Daras. Additionally, the division offers a Pediatric Hematology-Oncology fellowship with support for a fourth year.
Position Responsibilities:
- Teaching: Faculty member will have teaching responsibilities in the area of Critical Care Medicine. Faculty member will provide teaching and mentorship to medical students, residents, and Fellows when applicable.
- Research: Faculty member will have working knowledge in basic research methods and be able to participate in clinical, translational, and outcomes research that division may play an active role in pursuing.
- Service: Faculty member will serve on departmental, hospital, or School of Medicine level committees when appropriate, as well as professional activities through journal review, conference presentations, etc.
- Clinical: Faculty member will serve as a pediatric neuro-oncologist for the Department of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Hematology Oncology.
- Board certified or board eligible in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
- Previous experience in an academic medical center
