Position Summary:
The Stravitz-Sanyal Institute for Liver Disease and Metabolic Health (SSLI) is looking for a Lead Project Manager to manage and administrate a portfolio of research projects, as well as oversee, plan, organize and communicate the activities generated by those projects. The Lead Project Manager will coordinate and support multidisciplinary teams that span a broad range of strategic partnerships, liaising closely with institute research and operations staff on execution. In coordination with senior leadership and under intermittent supervision, the Lead Project Manager will develop processes and implement new programs.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Oversee the delivery of major research and training program initiatives, ensuring they are managed to business requirements, specification, time and budget.
- Provide day-to-day high-level support to the SSLI administrative leadership, assisting in the development and implementation of robust program management processes.
- Develop systems and processes necessary for the tracking, planning, and execution of projects.
- Coordinate project and related collaboration meetings, ensuring updates and action plans are documented and distributed.
- Monitor all activities, issues and progress, taking actions as necessary to ensure minimum impact on programmatic deadlines.
- When appropriate, work with the institute's research administration team to outline project specific costs during the budget development process.
- Coordinate and deliver strong project governance, communicating project information and status to all relevant parties, providing early warning and escalation of key issues to administrative leadership.
- Act as a primary contact point for all internal and external partners and ensure strong business relationship management.
- This role requires flexibility and adaptability – other duties may be assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific field and significant relevant professional experience or equivalent level of professional qualifications and/or experience.
- Master's degree preferred.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification desired.
- Must have a demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in past experiences or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
- Track-record of managing high visibility, multi-disciplinary research projects, involving external and internal partners.
- Exceptional project management, organizational and analytical skills combined with a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate effectively and clearly with a wide range of people and audiences at all levels.
- Diplomatic, able to negotiate and apply judgement in complex areas.
- Effective decision-making.
- Able to work on own initiative.
- Time management, prioritization and calmness under pressure.
